Beginning September 6, 2010, 7th grade students will work with no more than two other classmates to research and present information on one of the following topics related to The Civil Rights Movement. Most of this work will occur outside of the classroom. Events/topics from which to choose are as follows:
  • The NAACP: Yesterday and Today
  • Voting Rights
  • Marches and Rallies
  • The Freedom Riders
  • The Montgomery Bus Boycott
  • The Little Rock 9
  • The March on Washington
  • The Greensboro Sit-ins
  • Brown vs. Board of Education
  • Women in the 1960 Civil Rights Movement
  • The Black Panther Party
  • Jim Crow Laws
Projects must be in the form of a historical essay (5 paragraph minimum) or diary entries (10 minimum) in the voice of a person who experienced your event/topic and submitted to this Wiki. Cut and Paste your entry by clicking on the "Discussions" tab. Make sure the researcher's first name only is provided!
"Hard copies", handwritten, or printed copies will not be accepted.

Projects must also include photos/pictures (at least 5) that represent your event/topic, a timeline of events, and maps that show the area of your event. Be sure to include captions that support your pictures, timeline, and map(s). This should be demonstrated in the form of a power point presentation.

Students will have until October 21, 2010 to complete the essay portion of their project and the extra credit power point presentations!

Due dates:
  • September 3= choose research partners and event/topic (Ms. G. must approve)
  • September 17= references (minimum 3) you plan to use and a general outline(you may not use Wikipedia!)
  • (Over the fall intercession, research partners need to meet and work on their projects)
  • October 21= submission of final essay prepared for presentation
  • Extra Credit: Power Point presentations completed and prepared for presentation
